Isles of Capri is four mangrove islands off Collier Boulevard just north of the Marco Island bridge, connected by fill and dredged into canal lots by Leland "Doc" Loach starting in 1956. The dredge ran twenty hours a day for five years. The original homes were small 1960s block houses with shingle or flat roofs, and many still stand between newer two-story canal homes under concrete tile or standing-seam metal. Almost every lot has a dock, and the whole community is a few feet above the water.
